FIAlab Instruments, Inc.  is a privately held company founded in 1987 (then named Alitea USA), initially as a re-distributor of Alitea AB's peristaltic pumps. However, it quickly became apparent that there was a demand for complete flow injection systems. In 1988 Alitea Instruments introduced two FIA systems; an educational non-computer based low cost instrument, and a computer based, high end instrument. Although somewhat limited when compared to our current product line, these early instruments are still widely used, evident by frequent mentions in scientific papers and conferences. Since then, FIAlab Instruments has introduced seven new state of the art FIA and SIA systems under the trade mark FIAlab®, as well as our line of detectors and flow cells.

Innovative technology, top quality components, and the highest level of experience make FIAlab the most advanced, precise, compact and economical SIA and FIA instruments available. Automation of reagent based assays is critical to laboratory research in chemistry, biotechnology, drug screening and environmental studies, as well as in process control in industry. FIAlab brings quality and precision to this automation.

Our Mission is to provide tools for a reliable automation of (bio)chemical assays using microfluidics integrated with advanced sensor technologies.

All FIAlab instruments are constructed with the best components available. Alitea peristaltic pumps ensure precise dispensing of fluids. Cavro microsyringe pumps offer a wide range of speeds and volumes. Valco "intelligent" valves are robust and highly reliable, and Upchurch fittings come in a large variety of chemically resistant and biocompatible materials.

The technical staff of FIAlab Instruments have a unique level of expertise in flow injection and sequential injection analyses through more than 20 years of direct research. Superior technical and software support, applications advice and user training are all available.

Environment and Safety

FIAlab systems are contained microanalytical instruments, consuming only microliters of reagents and samples for assays, thus keeping waste to the minimum. The instruments are run on a safe and efficient 24VDC power supply.

Research and Development

Besides the continuous and relentless examining and testing of our current product line, we are currently developing a new FIA/SIA system that includes a high quality sample changer. We are also testing out several new flow cells, and several new types of pumps. Additional research effort is directed towards the development of SIA/FIA systems specific to certain analyses (e.g., detection of lead in blood).

Why the Name Change

Alitea USA began in 1987 as a distributor of Swedish-made Alitea peristaltic pumps. We soon expanded into our own line of Flow Injection Analysis instruments, which we have produced since 1989 under our trademark FIAlab. The FIAlab line has grown to include Sequential Injection Analysis systems, many unique flow cells, sample changers and syringe pumps.

The name FIAlab Instruments, Inc. expresses our commitment to this product line. Except for the name change and a move to a new and larger facility, the company remains the same.
